In entrepreneurship, it all starts with an idea. As a joint effort between Laurier’s Research Department, the Laurier LaunchPad, Startup Laurier, and Laurier’s Faculty of Science, Research 2 Revenue is an event that gives students a chance to take an idea and run with it! All of these technologies have been developed by Laurier researchers, and they’re ready for monetization.

The 6 technologies

Health-tracking apps for the smartphone market in developing countries

A simple bargaining mechanism that removes the need for direct haggling

Field deployable mini-lab to assess the effects of ground water contaminants on plants

A reagent kit for easy and reproducible introduction of chemicals to protein crystal

Clinical cardiovascular app

Using THz imaging technology in the fashion industry

The Competition

Phase 1: Applications – Students have until Thursday, November 14th to submit an application through this form. Just pick your favourite technology, describe your ideas for turning it into a business, and let us know if you are working with any friends on the project.

Phase 2: Get workin’ – Groups will be assigned to technologies and have a week to build out their ideas for the business. They’ll get to meet with the researcher and our Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

Phase 3: Presentations – All of the hard work culminates on Friday, November 22nd where the groups will present their business model to a panel of judges. The winning team will receive a $500 cash prize and automatic acceptance into our LaunchPad program!

So go grab a friend and figure out which technology tickles your fancy. You’ll want to bookmark http://wlu.ca/research/research2revenue or click ‘attending’ on our Facebook event to get the latest details (& reminders to apply!)
